|
Order
Passeriformes
Family
Turdidae
Genus
Catharus
Description: The Hermit Thrush is a familiar bird that is known for its beautiful, watery song. It can be found in nearly every habitat of the Southern US and much of Mexico during the winter before the bird migrates and can be seen in the Northwestern US, most of Canada, and Alaska in the summers. These birds are known to migrate primarily at night and feed/rest during the day during their long journeys. They average smaller than the Swainson's Thrush, a bird that closely resembles the Hermit Thrush. Hermit Thrushes can be identified using their bright rufous tail and well defined, "clean," spots on its chest, features the Swainson's Thrush lacks.
