Bonderman Field Station at Rio Mesa has a long history of human use, with clear evidence of Native American habitation over the last 5,000 years as well as original Anglo-American homestead structures dating back to the late 1860s. These sites of historic and prehistoric occupation provide a glimpse into the challenges of life in this landscape, offering us a valuable opportunity to study the evolution of land use practices on the Colorado Plateau.
