Geomorphology
This area is typical of Utah's scenic canyon country. The topography of the region around the field station is dominated by river canyons with steep sandstone cliffs and flat-topped mesas. Some extremely unusual geologic landforms occur in this region to the northwest and southwest of Moab, including spectacular natural arches in Arches National Park and deeply entrenched meanders in Deadhorse Point State Park and Canyonlands National Park.
